Here’s a list of the public holidays in Ireland for 2022

Just a little something to brighten up your first day back.

If you’re currently sat at your desk, already thinking about the next bank holiday, then you’re not alone.

The celebrations are finally over, and most of the country is finally back to work today. Sigh. Some savvy workers are already filling out requests for their 2022 holidays, with some of the hottest dates already been snapped up for the year ahead.

Many of us will be scrambling to nab a cheap flight out of Cork for a romantic city getaway in Paris or London, or even a cheeky trip to Geneva, and what better time to get away than over a bank holiday weekend.

Here’s a full list of the confirmed bank holidays in Ireland for 2022:

Current Public Holidays:

  • January 3 – New Year’s Day
  • March 17 – St Patrick’s Day
  • March 18 – Bonus Bank Holiday
  • April 18 – Easter Monday
  • May 2 – May Bank Holiday
  • June 6 – June Bank Holiday
  • August 1 – August Bank Holiday
  • October 31 – Halloween
  • December 25 – Christmas Day
  • December 26 – St Stephen’s Day

Bonus bank holiday:

The Irish government has previously hinted that it could be introducing another public holiday to offer thanks and recognition for the hard work of frontline workers over the past two years.

Discussions around this date initially pointed towards February 1st, for St Brigid’s Day, however Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has since stated that this won’t be happening in 2022.

Instead, Mr Varadkar has suggested that we may be in for a ‘double bank holiday’ this year in March, alongside St Patrick’s Day, but this has yet to be confirmed.
