Go with your Gut: Where to try kombucha in Cork city

On the hunt for a gut-healthy beverage?

Whether you’re already a fan of kombucha or simply want to try something new, there are a few places in Cork that serve this delicious fermented drink.

Kombucha (not to be confused with the alcoholic drink Sambuca!) is a tea-based, sparkling drink that’s mixed with different flavours and fermented – meaning it’s good for the bacteria in your gut and good for your immune system in general.

This makes it the perfect drink to put a pep in your step during the winter and even to sip if you’re looking for an alcohol-free vibe this holiday season. With so many different flavours to choose from and made either here in Cork or in Ireland, here are our favourite spots in Cork to get a lip-smacking helping of the good stuff:

My Goodness

Drinking kombucha on draft at the My Goodness stall in the English Market stall is probably the coolest way to drink kombucha. Get yourself a freshly poured ‘pint’ and pretend you’re
at the pub with some friends – iconic!

You can also find My Goodness at multiple farmers’ markets around Cork; for instance, the Mahon market, the market in Douglas, and the market on the Coal Quay. The My Goodness crew is always coming up with new flavour combinations and interesting ways to eat and drink plant-based food that is delicious as well as really healthy.

Some of the kombucha you should try is their apple and ginger kombucha – they also make kefir (similar to kombucha but made with water instead of tea) and they have a mint, lime, and cucumber kefir, as well as a hibiscus citrus kefir. Delish!

Terra Ignis

Also located in the English Market, Terra Ignis makes a lovely selection of products that are
both seasonal and locally foraged – think fermented ketchups, fermented hot sauces, and
deliciously fizzy fermented sodas.

Despite being a new addition to the Cork food scene, the crew at Terra Ignis has won the people of Cork over with their mouth-watering food and attention to detail. Their probiotic sodas are always changing with the seasons, and each flavour is full of gut-friendly ingredients that’ll boost your immune system. Why not try the strawberry and dandelion leaf soda, the blueberry and pineapple weed soda, or the raspberry and lemon verbena soda?

Also, the packaging of their products is so divine; the intricate floral design captures the beautiful taste of the product inside.

Holo Kombucha

Based in Youghal, the Holo team brews up delish kombucha that’s stocked in many shops, health food stores, and cafés in Cork and beyond. You can find their colourful glass bottles in the Quay Co-Op, Here’s Health, and Lidl as well!

With 2 lovely flavours to choose from – natural or mango & pineapple – you should
definitely give Holo Kombucha a go. Not only is it lovely on its own, but their kombucha is so
nice mixed into non-alcoholic cocktails as well.

Get creative! Their website is full of information about how they brew their kombucha, how the business came about, as well as a variety of blog posts.

All About Kombucha

We’ll have to forgive them for being based in Galway (and not in Cork) because their
kombucha is so delicious! All About Kombucha – born and brewed in Galway – makes a gorgeous range of fermented flavours, and they all come in beautiful cans that feature artwork done by Irish artists.

Choose from ginger and lemon, blueberry and mint, or raspberry flavours of kombucha. All of their booch (aka kombucha) is organic, and they won the Irish Drink Award 2022 – yet another reason to try their products!

You can find cans of All About Kombucha in many cafés around Cork, like Alchemy, Duke’s,
and Izz Café.
