The Fastnet Film Festival takes place in Schull this week

It’s going to be a jam-packed week!

Calling all cinema geeks, movie buffs, and anyone who goes to the cinema for the pick ‘n’
mix instead of the film itself: the Fastnet Film Festival is happening this week!

Taking place in Schull, West Cork, the festival offers a great selection of films as well as events, all happening over 5 days – from Wednesday the 22nd to Sunday the 26th of May.

There will be 35 different programmes of short films shown, including 2 Irish-language
programmes and one ‘Closet Cinema’ – a tiny, 3-seater cinema at the festival’s box office. In this tiny cinema, you can watch ‘Bird Drone’, an 8-minute film about a seagull who falls in
love with a drone.

Other programmes feature short films that range from comedy to drama, art house to animation, student films to Cork films, and more.

As well as the various films, there will be talks, workshops, and networking events during
the festival. Some of these events include a movie quiz, ‘The Art of Screen Acting’ masterclass, and ‘From Lens to Action: Empowering voices in human rights documentaries’
discussion.

Keep an eye out for some famous faces, too, like Paul Mescal, Daisy Edgar Jones and Lenny Abrahamson – of ‘Normal People’ fame – who will take part in a conversation on the actor-director dynamic.

If the weather is good or bad, there’ll be nowhere nicer than Schull over the few days of the
festival; the town will be buzzing with activity, and there are gorgeous cafés, bars,
restaurants, and shops to check out in between all your movie watching!
