Credit Unions all over Cork were paying it forward in coffee shops last week

Several Credit Unions across Cork have been paying it forward in coffee shops across the county with their Current Account debit cards – this means many lucky Corkonians received a lash of free coffee last week thanks to their Credit Union.

Eleven Credit Unions are involved in the campaign, including Access, Douglas, First South, Macroom, Synergy, HSSCU, Bishopstown, Mallow, Youghal, St Pauls and Gurranabraher.

The joint initiative is in response to banks leaving Cork town centres and the Irish market as a whole. This group of Cork Credit Unions wanted to brighten up a few people’s day, in one of the best ways possible with a free delicious caffeine fix!

This group of Cork Credit Unions are now hoping to encourage people to open Current Accounts with them where they can avail of services like getting your full salary paid in, overdrafts, and direct debit facilities – everything you’d expect from your Current Account with the added benefit of some of the lowest fees on the market, all from your Credit Union.

Cork is blessed to have some of the best coffee shops and cafés in the country. Included in the list of locations where the Credit Unions are paying it forward were Cork Coffee Roasters, Bean and Leaf, Bean Brownie, Pink Moon, and Puccinos, to name but a few.

Credit Unions offer extremely competitive Current Account fees, while also offering free banking for students and no extra fixed charge for direct debit and standing order processing. The Current Accounts are compatible with Apple Pay, Google Pay and Fitbit Pay.

Luke Casey spokesperson of the group said “Through this initiative we wanted to do something a little different and fun. As a county we’re blessed with local great coffee, and we wanted to share by paying for a few cups with our debit cards! Credit Unions are at the heart of communities all over Cork and the country as a whole.

Credit Unions have always been proudly different because they’re member-owned, not for profit, rates and fees are designed to be reinvested directly into services for their members. The number of Credit Unions providing day to day financial services like Current Accounts continues to grow. Giving the great people of Cork a real choice.”
