Popular Cork restaurant closes ‘until further notice’ due to Covid surge

There goes another one.

Thompsons Restaurant & Brewery has temporary closed down until further notice.

The historic venue, which was first opened as ‘Thompsons Bakery’ back in 1826, was recently refurbished and reopened in 2019, complete with an on-site brewery, restaurant and stone pizza oven.

Thompsons has seen tremendous traction since they reopened their doors just over two years ago – the vintage-style brewery, complete with cosy nooks and antique relics offers some of the finest cocktails in the city.

Taking to social media to make the closure announcement, Thompsons management mentioned:

“Dear customers,

We have come to the difficult decision to close our premises until further notice due to the current covid climate.

We have had a number of staff members who are close contacts of other cases.

The safety of our staff and customers is of utmost importance to us and for this reason we have decided to close.

Reservations will be contacted by phone or email. We will keep you updated on the ongoing situation as to when we plan on reopening.

Thank you for your understanding and patience,

Thompson’s Team x”
