We love to see it!
Vivienne Sayers O’Callaghan, now 20, got the idea for her business during a trip to IKEA for cacti back in 2020. Frustrated with the lack of quality indoor plant shops in Cork, Vivienne discovered a gap in the market, and thus Prickly Plants was born.
Vivienne started off by hand-making and selling tiny pots for succulent plants. She set up a Christmas stall at the Marina Market and from then on, began exploring ways to grow the business.
In January 2021, Vivienne began selling plants online via Instagram and from there, the business went from strength to strength, thanks to the support of her local community. Flash forward to September 2021, Vivienne now has an e-commerce website, her own store with employees, and over 4K followers on social media (not to mention her large, loyal customer base) Well done Viv!
Speaking to Craving Cork, Vivienne mentioned: “I wouldn’t be anywhere without local support – people are amazing. Coming into April 2021 the business really began to bloom and has been ever since. I sit here today with my little shop, the most supportive customer base and 0 regrets. Starting my own business has been the most valuable thing I’ve ever done. If I had one piece of advice to anyone right now, it would be to start one. Just do it – you won’t regret it!”
