Here’s how you can help SVP during the severe cold snap

The charity sees need to double fuel deliveries this week to families and individuals in need

St. Vincent De Paul (SVP) South-West have said that they have been “swamped” with calls for assistance in recent days as the extreme cold snap devastates struggling families across Cork.

The charity has said their conferences across Cork city and county have been advised that double fuel deliveries may be required this week by those they assist. This will put additional pressure on SVP resources.

January brings increased calls for assistance to SVP as schools return and families and the elderly struggle with the ongoing high cost of living. However, the current extreme weather has dramatically magnified this need and the volume of such calls has greatly increased. This is putting additional strain on SVP resources and the Society is reaching out to the generous people of Cork to once again support those less fortunate at this time of extreme need.

“We have been flooded with calls for help and support over the last week. The recent extreme weather conditions have had a catastrophic impact on families and people in need who were already struggling to make ends meet” – SVP South-West’s Regional President, Mary Frances Behan.

Those wishing to help are asked to donate to SVP now. SVP’s largest fundraiser, the Annual Car Draw Appeal is the primary and most critical source of funds required to help those in need during the cold Winter months ahead.

Tickets and free post return envelopes delivered to every household in Cork can still be returned with your donations and there is also the option of buying tickets online. Donations would be greatly appreciated through both channels.

Tickets for the raffle cost €5 each, a bundle of five tickets costs €20 and these can be purchased online at the following link: www.svp.ie/cardraw24

Alternatively, the freepost SVP envelopes can be returned by post or dropped into the SVP Regional Office at Ozanam House, 2 Tuckey Street, Cork  (Tel : 021 4270444).

The final date for entries will be 12 noon on Friday 10th January 2025.
