IndieCork Film Festival takes place at The Arc Cinema next week

And this year there’s a strong global representation!

27 countries from across the world will be represented at this year’s IndieCork film festival from October 6th – 13th at The Arc Cinema, with a host of award-winning documentaries, new feature films and Ireland’s largest representation of short films.

The popular festival has been boosted by the return of Irish web-hosting company Blacknight Solutions as sponsors. The 2024 festival includes a new award for the ‘Blacknight Best Irish Short Film,’ which comes with a generous cash prize for the winning director.

The opening night film on October 6th is ‘Juliette In Spring,’ a French comedy-drama which has charmed festival audiences recently. Directed by Blandine Lenoir, it will screen on October 6th at The Arc Cinema.

Of the short, feature, and documentary films, 30 are from filmmakers with Cork connections. The festival also has a wide reach worldwide, with an impressive six programmes of international short films in competition, from countries such as Haiti, Kosovo, Palestine, Austria, The Philippines and Indonesia, amongst others.

One of the most interesting documentaries at the festival, ‘Call Me Mule’

The festival continuously attracts international filmmakers to Cork and Ireland. One such director is Frédéric Pelle from France who returns to IndieCork after several visits, with his new feature, ‘A Bee In His Bonnet.’ Also visiting is Franc Dumij from Croatia, who represents his music film Funk YU screening at The Pavilion on Thursday 10th.

One of the most interesting documentaries at the festival is ‘Call Me Mule ‘by director John McDonald, who will fly in from Seattle for his screening. This multi-award-winning film tells the true story of a man who has chosen to wander across the USA with his three mules in tow, harking back to a quieter and slower time, reminiscent of the Old West.
