Oh what fun it is to ride…..a bike.
The annual Cork Santa Claus cycle will be taking place in the city later this evening.
Hundreds of adults dressed as Santa will be gathering outside Goldbergs bar on Victoria Road to partake in this epic yearly spectacle. The charity event, which will raise money for Marymount Hospice, will see upwards of 500 Santas cycling a total of 7km from Goldbergs and right through Cork city.
Anyone can partake in the cycle provided they’re over 18 and have their own bike, and must register online in advance here. Registration includes a Santa suit, fairy lights and batteries, and collection is today from 3pm – 5pm at Goldbergs (if you already have your own Santa costume, you can choose the ‘no Santa’ option when registering).
Cycling Santas are encouraged to pimp their bikes with tinsel and fairy lights to make them look as festive as possible, and are advised to wear helmets and ensure they have normal bike lights as well.
The Santa cycle is a great event for the kids, and Santa’s Elves will be there on the night selling raffle tickets and collecting donations, with all proceeds going to Marymount Hospice. If you’re driving to the event, organisers have asked that you park along the main docks area as the parking spaces around Goldbergs will be fenced off for the cyclists.
