Cork city will be getting six new outdoor gyms in 2022

Great news for gym bunnies as brand new outdoor gyms are due to be installed at six Cork city locations this year.

The new callisthenics gyms will be opening in the following locations throughout the city:

  • Popham’s Park, Farranree
  • Clogheenmilcon, Blarney
  • John O’Callaghan Park, Glanmire
  • Murphy’s Farm, Bishopstown
  • Gerry O’Sullivan Park, Churchfield
  • Lough Mahon Amenity Walkway

Adrienne Rogers, Director of Services for Cork City Council, has mentioned that work on these new outdoor gyms has already commenced, and they are due to be completed by April.

According to Adrienne, the budget for this years sports and amenities fund is €200,000, with amenities to be divided across the above five areas, stating:

“For the 2022 funding, we consulted closely with the Community section of Cork City Council and explored possible community projects that would benefit from the funding, looking at groups, organisations and schools throughout the city.”

Further to this, Mrs Rogers mentions the council is also proposing to install three additional callisthenics gyms, at Clashduv Park, Ballycannon Park and Tory Top Park, along with the introduction of a ‘multi use games area’ in Ballinlough Park and refurbishment of two tennis courts located at Meelick Park.
